Figuring Footage

How Do I Figure Linear Footage?
A linear foot (or linear foot) is the measurement in length only. Unlike square footage, width is not factored into this measurement. This measurement is used, for example, on countertops or molding and consists of its length from end to end only (i.e., if a countertop is 6 feet long and 2 feet deep, then it is still just 6 lineal feet).

How Do I Figure Square Footage?
The square foot is a common unit of area measurement used by many types of contractors in flooring, building, and beyond. The square footage is easily calculated by multiplying the length by the width of a specified area [L' x W' = square footage] (i.e., if a room is 6 feet by 10 feet, then 6 x 10 = 60 square feet).

How Do I Figure Board Footage?
The board footage of a room is good to know when it comes to thinking about lumber. The board footage is calculated by multiplying length (in feet) by width (in feet) by board thickness (in inches) and then dividing it by 144 [L' x W' x Thickness"/144 = Board Feet].
